We had the privilege of being able to take Chance, Pete's son with us. He is with the Marine Honor Guard in DC.
So it is 39 miles but it took us a mear hour to get there. We have had many opportunities to be patient these last few days.
It was a gorgeous, short-sleeve weather day. The sky was beautifully blue. Fort McHenry was interesting and fun to explore even though a large part was closed for remodeling. As with many places we have encountered on the east coast, we are on bays but not at the ocean. Today we were on the Patapsco River which leads to the Chesapeake Bay.
By the time we were done exploring we were hungry so found a place we thought we would like to eat but driving we saw a tall ship and other boats so pulled into a parking garage and got out. We were in the heart of Baltimore. There was a Hard Rock Cafe so ate there. Upon exploring the boat options we decided to tour a couple. When buying the tickets we were able to tour all four for the price of one ship tour because of Chance being in the military. So we toured: 1) the Constellation, a schooner, 2) the Torsk, a submarine, 3) the Chesapeake, a light tender, and 4) the Taney, a Coast Guard cutter. Four different boats, four different eras, four different missions.
A wonderful afternoon with good company doing a spur of the moment attraction that caught our attention. It was still 39 miles back to where we dropped off Chance but this time it took hour and 20 minutes. We are so thankful we live in Klamath Falls and these commute times are not the norm.
Another patient lesson: went to the grocery store before coming to the room. It is .8 of a mile - 4 minutes to travel. Still so thankful to have 4 minutes to spend to get to the room.
