What a beautiful day! It was great for traveling and am thankful but it would have been nice to be out doing something on such a warm, fall day. On the road by 8 Eastern Time. We changed to Central Time early but don't know exactly where, as all the electronic devices just change.
We were hoping to get to our destination early but an accident many miles ahead caused us to be in very slow traffic for quite a while.
We are getting so many geography lessons. We were in Georgia for 3, yes 3 short minutes; less than a half hour after we got on the road. Then back to Tennessee. Entered Kentucky at 10:18 Central Time - 11:18 Eastern Time. We hit Illinois at 11:54 and finally Missouri at 2:14. St Louis is on the eastern edge of the state. We arrived at our hotel at 2:45.
A little bit about the drive. The traffic around Nashville was very heavy. We have mentioned in other blogs what we remember about certain states. For Tennessee it would be fireworks stores. Many of them and we are talking some the size of department stores.
The landscape around the interstate in Tennessee was disiduous forests, rolling hills, and in places the road cut through rocks. The landscaping along the rocky areas was very eye appealing. When we entered Kentucky the landscape changed to rolling farm land. In Illinois, just east of the Missouri border the farm lands became very, VERY flat - we could see for miles on either side of the freeway.
I don't believe we have seen as many or as complicated interchanges as here in St Louis. We are getting more and more excited knowing that soon there will be a lot less traffic as we continue west.
We needed a little time to wind down when we arrived at St Louis (we are actually in St Charles which is north west of St Louis). There is a little shopping center - and a Bass Pro - right across the street from the hotel, so we just walked around and unwound some. Rested for about an hour, ate some dinner and went to Calvary Chapel St Louis County. The teaching from Daniel 6 was very good and was a reminder of integrity and faithfulness. Met Pastor Dave and his wife Carol and another couple Jay and Sandra. Nice evening.
It was mentioned earlier that we are in a hotel now not a motel. It is a nice 8 story facility. The top floor has been converted to suites by combining 2 king rooms. Because we have stayed so many nights with this hotel chain, we were upgraded to a suite. It is nice having the extra room but don’t really need 2 bathrooms.
The streets around this area are the strangest so far. Around some of the freeway interchanges we've encountered surface streets that have the oncoming traffic coming at us on the right side.
