20161114: Charlotte NC to Chattanooga TN

Up and at 'em early!

Left Rick and Sue's at 6:40am. It was an uneventful drive - we really like uneventful drives. Saw many commuters happily driving to their jobs as we headed west. We did have smoke from about 2 hours out of Charlotte and beyond. It was a 7 hour drive so we spent a good deal of the time in smoke. It wasn't horrible for driving but sad that it didn't have to be. Arson is such a horrible thing. Traffic was such that couldn't use cruise control. The roadways and hillsides were beautiful with many trees having leaves that haven't fallen yet. The views were of more burnt oranges and brick red-very fall looking.

When we arrived in Chattanooga went straight to Lookout Mountain. This site has three attractions: Ruby Falls, Rock City and the top of the mountain; all three of which cost. Top of the mountain would have been so cool because you can see five states from the top.  But because of the smoke there wasn't visibility so we didn't go. We chose not to go to Rock city for the same reason.

Ruby Falls is actually under ground in a cavern with an extensive cave system. And the falls is 271 feet tall. It was amazing. Quite a bit of history as to how it was discovered and developed - will tell those of you who want to know.

Came to our room and relaxed.

Happy commuters heading into Charlotte
